How you can use video for business   February 11th, 2012

Wind back the clock to about 8 months ago and I absolutely avoided video like the plague. Another social media platform to engage with and use for business? Kill me now.

Then a great opportunity came along with Melissa Groom of Toddlers to Teens TV to become a business expert on her site and I was faced with a choice – get used to video quick or lose the opportunity! I chose the former.

Since starting to record videos of my own I have also now become something of a connoisseur of business videos and am quickly learning different ways you can use videos for business and wanted to pass a few on:

Show how to use your product: This 1 min video made by Ikea sets out quite simply how the products work and as they’re placing them in situ you get a much better idea of how they could fit or work in your house. You can also pick up some great tips from this video on how to use titles and an end graphic.

Become an expert in your field: Victoria Player makes great videos which make me not only sit through them but rate her as someone who knows business – which is her aim! Take note of her appearance, continuity throughout videos (the background, running the same shows on the same days), her use of music in the background and her great titles.

Show off your service: Nook Interior Design have created a great video not only showing off her knowledge in the field of interior design, but also allowing us to get to like and connect with her.

Allow your customers to get to know and connect with you: This video by Heather James of Inspiring Mums is quite simple and to the point. No bells, no whistles but is so powerful as it’s real and emotional. I imagine all of her Inspiring Mums would have felt more connected to her viewing this video. What could you share with your target market?

Differentiate yourself from your competition: Who thinks insurance companies are funny? No one. But this insurance company is setting themselves apart by making You Tube videos that make people laugh and get the point across. I’m going to hazard a guess that more people have seen this clip than a regular one made by other insurance companies.

So, that’s just a few. I’d love to know if you’ve seen any great videos for business and what you’ve leaned about good video from watching them.

Cheers! Alli x

I have really enjoyed making videos and watching my you tube hits increase .. I just struggle to know how to promote them – FB & twitter seem to be ok for instant hits but after the first few days I struggle to get anymore. I have a widget on my blog and use appropriate videos in posts but I feel there is more scope but I’ve run out of ideas.

You may have something already on your website but I would love to read a simple “how to” post on creating video.
How do I film … webcam?
How do you edit? cheap/free software for business on a budget
How do you add text, music etc

Oh I would be interested in finding out about putting videos up – eg what if they are 10-20mins long? As far as I know YouTube dont let you put long ones up? And would love to know the answers to Linda’s questions as well!
