How I secured an interview on The Circle October 14th, 2011
I had been sending press releases as often as I could to a producer on The Circle when I finally got the call.
‘Would you like to be interviewed on The Circle?’
‘Hmmmm, let me think….’
I confirmed that I would indeed like to be interviewed for the show and, during the course of the call, asked the lovely gal on the line if she had gotten my details from said Producer. She hadn’t.
Then how had she found me? She had been given my details by another Producer and hadn’t actually spoken about the segment with the woman I’d been harassing at all! In addition, she had no idea how my information had been procured initially.
So, the reason for this blog? Given that I have absolutely no idea how I was found? The moral of this story is that there is no need to feel like you’re missing out or you can’t compete if you can’t afford PR. I am a relatively small biz with an even smaller budget (compared to some of my competitors) and yet, The Circle found me.
And although I am not sure how I was found I am sure that my business strategy played a part. The way I approach marketing my business is to try and let one new person a day know that I exist. This can be through social media, meeting mums in play centres, saying hi in mum-run stores, trying to do my best with SEO – any way in which I can get in front of someone new.
It’s basically the the law of numbers, one person a day soon adds up to a lot – and one day it led me to The Circle.
Cheers! Alli x

Kelly Exeter » And sometimes I can even let two know -or three! Then I’m exceeding my goals and even more peeps are knowing about me! x

Deb Dane » Good! That was exactly the point I was trying to get across – thanks for your reply Deb x

It’s so true Alli. You just never know who’s watching and listening to what you do. It kinda makes you realise that even a simple comment on someone else’s blog could be what sparks interest.
Can’t wait to see you on The Circle.
Love & stuff

Jodie – Muddled Up Mumma » Oh goodie Jodie, I am so glad it seems that way because that was my intention – we can all learn off each other if we do everything with transparency. Well, those are my thoughts anyways! Thanks for the post x

Great stuff! A big way that producers are finding out about bloggers is via twitter. They’re on twitter via their personal name (which we wouldn’t necessarily know). They can see what we are about and whether we would suit a show or a magazine article before even making contact. Such an amazing thing for small businesses without a PR budget.

GREAT attitude, Alli!
I’m sooooo excited for you!
That’s SUCH fantastic news

Nikki @ Styling You » Hi Nikki! Found you! Thanks for your reply – and maybe that’s how they found me? Either way, it’s a good incentive to keep up the good work on Twitter, doesn’t it. Cheers! Alli x
